Catalyze the chemistry with the boys to maximize “old-school” camaraderie
  • closeness – play for the kid next to you
  • accountability – learn to be direct and honest with an eye towards the growth of the group
  • shedding failure immediately
  • have fun with the game – growth mindset
  • bring back the Five I’s: imagination, independence, integrity, intestinal fortitude and identity
  • create an atmosphere that makes these kids better people AND better hockey players
  • give these 20 kids a community (in the middle of a society where community matters less and less) that they’ll never forget
  • Respect – Lose the boys-will-be-boys mentality and provide the structure for and support for these young men to respect themselves and those around them.
Work with kids individually to support them in
  • Provide Structure: Help players become better leaders, more selfless, less scared to get close to teammates, less scared to make mistakes, less scared to disappoint parents and coaches.
  • Identify the issues holding players back on the ice: family issues, loss, Digital Age pressures (phones, fear of disappointing, all the eggs in the hockey basket, etc.)
  • Assist students create a Personal Performance Plan detailing what he needs to do, how he’s doing and how he can get even closer to his dynamic goals; staff is deeply clued into this process and, where useful, parents are too.
